Privacy Policy

Who this covers

This website belongs to Carolina Marques, an independent brand designer and strategist based in Langley, British Columbia, trading as Carolina Marques Creative. This policy explains what personal information the site collects, why, and what happens to it. It follows British Columbia’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

What I collect

When you send an inquiry. The contact form asks for your name, email address and details about your business and project. You can also share your company name, website or Instagram, timeline, budget range and how you heard about me.

When you join the newsletter. Your email address.

When you email me. Whatever you include in your message.

When you browse the site. Basic visit information, such as pages viewed, the site that referred you, your browser and device type, and your approximate location based on your IP address. This is collected by Squarespace, the platform the site is built on, and is described in the Cookies Policy.

How I use it

• To reply to your inquiry, arrange a discovery call and prepare a proposal.
• To deliver and manage a project if we work together, including invoices and records.
• To send the newsletter, if you subscribed. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
• To understand how the site is used, so I can improve it.

I don’t sell, rent or trade your personal information, and I don’t use it for anything you wouldn’t reasonably expect from the reasons above.

Who else handles it

A few services help run this site and studio. They only receive what they need to do their job:

• Squarespace hosts the website, the contact form, the newsletter and visit statistics. See the Squarespace Privacy Policy.
• Google provides my email, and Google Fonts loads some of the site’s typefaces.
• Adobe Fonts loads the site’s headline typeface.

Some of these services store information on servers outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be subject to local laws.

How long I keep it

Inquiries that don’t become projects are deleted within two years. Project records are kept for as long as they’re needed for the work and for tax and business records, usually up to seven years. Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe.

Your choices

You can ask to see the personal information I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or withdraw your consent and ask me to delete it, unless I need to keep it for legal or business records. Email c.amarquesdesign@gmail.com and I’ll reply within 30 days.

If you’re not satisfied with my response, you can contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.

Keeping it safe

Information is kept in password-protected accounts with two-step verification where available, and is only shared as described above. No website is perfectly secure, so please don’t send sensitive information such as passwords or payment details through the contact form.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will appear on this page with a new date at the top.
